Christmas day was a busy day for the Haun family. Early in the morning we went to the Faile’s house for a wonderful breakfast of cheese omelets, bacon, and muffins. It was the bacon, the cheese, and the American muffin mixes that made it such a special breakfast. We don’t get much of those around here.
Heidi then did rounds with the other doctors after breakfast. It didn’t take too long since the number of patients is low right now (Christmas must make people feel better). While she was rounding, Trey and I went up to Koko Duu, the Nutritional Rehab Center for kids and played with some of the children. One mother insisted on sharing her little malnourished child’s koko duu (a high-protein porridge of soy and corn meal) with Trey. We politely declined – Trey is no chunky chubster, but next to some of these kids he sure looks like one.
After rounds, I helped Dr. Faile deliver soft drinks to all the morning shift staff who were working at the hospital. This is an annual tradition he started many years ago. I was very impressed with how appreciative the employees were.
