Photos of the Canopy Walk

One of the more popular tourist destinations in Ghana is the canopy walk found in the Kakum National Forest. It takes about 3 hours to get to Kakum, and unfortunately the canopy walk only takes about 30 minutes and is the only attraction at the park. No camping, no hiking, nothing. They do have some guided nature walks but they are quite short and more suited for elementary kids.

Here are some images from my visit there in 2005 (click image to open gallery).

Photos of the Slave Castle in Cape Coast, Ghana

West of Accra in the city of Cape Coast there is an old slave castle. This fort was the starting point for many Africans’ long and brutal trip across the Atlantic to work in plantations in the Americas. It was originally built in the 1650s by the Swedes but as with many of the other slave castles it changed hands a number of times. In 1660, it was taken over by the British and rebuilt and enlarged by them in 1662. In 1663, it was captured by the Dutch, 1664 recaptured by the British, improved and enlarged by the British in 1673, attacked by the native Africans of the land in 1681, and finally taken over by the French in 1703 and 1757.

Here are some images from my visit there in 2005 (click image to open gallery).

  • Pray for the doctors and their families:
    • Dr. George and Elisabeth Faile
    • Dr. Earl and Mona Hewitt (with children Emily, Abbey, & Benton)
    • Jane Paysinger (pharmacist)
  • Pray that God will bring more physicians to the BMC as Dr. Faile and Dr. Hewitt are the only doctors currently working at the hospital
  • Pray for wisdom to make the proper administrative changes that need to be made in the hospital
