Headed Home

I’m off to the airport to fly back to the US. Please pray that all will go well and I’ll have enough energy when I arrive to play with my boy!

Sea Creature Defeated!

** a big thunderstorm took out our internet for a day so I was a bit behind on posts. I’ve caught up and posted the last few days photos on the website **

The “sea creature” I mentioned the other day has been slain. I’ve heard varying accounts of how it happened ranging from “they shot it” to the more exciting “it took thousands of men with cutlasses.”

What I know for sure is that after it was killed, its head was sent to the Nayiri as a gift. Hippo meat is supposedly very good (just ask Tommy Harrison who went to the Nayiri to get some) and when I visited the chief’s palace all that was left was its massive jaw bone.

On a not-so-entertaining note, the man attacked by the hippo is still in the hospital and in critical condition. Keep him in your prayers as he is in a great deal of pain and has 8 broken ribs.

Heading Home

We’re in the Accra airport about to board our flight to Amsterdam. Then to Detroit. Then to Tampa. We should be in Tampa on Monday around 4:30pm EST.

Pray for us and especially Trey during the flights and layovers. This 10pm flight from Accra has already been tough since it is past his bed time.

Photo of the Day

Girl on stretcher in theater

I snapped this image as the stretcher was being pushed out of theater. IA tear on an unconscious girl's face after a painful procedure in theater was very moved by the image when I saw it later in full resolution on my computer and spotted the tear under her eye.

This young girl was put under anesthetic while a visiting plastic surgeon cleaned a severe infection she has around her genitalia. There is a possibility it is a buruli ulcer which is not a good thing. Please keep her in your prayers.

Prayer Request

William headed off on his last long trip today. He is going to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, then Abidjan, Ivory Coast, then back to Burkina to the city of Bobo Dioulasso, and finally back home on December 16th.

Please pray for his safety as he travels and crosses borders. Pray also that his time with the media team in Abidjan is productive as they redesign the regional website. Pray for the vision trip team he will be joining in Burkina Faso as they begin outreach with the unreached Pana people group.

Pregnancy & Umbilical Hernia

A 36-37 week pregnant woman with her uterus in her umbilcal hernia sacSeveral weeks ago I posted information about umbilical hernias and mentioned a very rare case we saw. A woman’s uterus had slipped into her umbilical hernia and she was 32 weeks pregnant. She was admitted to the hospital then and put on bed rest until a c-section could be done.

I thought I would post an updated photo of her and ask you to pray for her and Dr. Faile as they will most likely be doing the c-section tomorrow.

Pray for the Believers of Soko

This will be brief as I’m posting via email from a really slow connection in Soko, Cote d’Ivoire.
I arrived safely after a long day of travel on public transportation. Carol Robertson picked me up as well as a chief who had been hospitalized the last few days in Ghana. This chief is the key Nafana believer in the village and they have been discipling him the past few months.
I was able to take photos of him and his family before we went to the Robertsons last night.
We found out this morning that he passed away during the night.
Please pray for the Robertsons as they greive the loss of this dear friend in Christ. Pray also that doors will open so that they can share the Gospel with the others in the village.

Pray for William as He Travels

William headed south to Tamale today. He will be visiting the Baptist Seminary there with IMB missionaries Pat and Peggy Ozment. Then on Wednesday he will travel southwest on public transportation to visit IMB missionaries Jerry and Carol Robertson. The Robertsons are working with the Nafana people just across the border into Cote d’Ivoire.

Please pray for William’s safety and health as he travels. He hopes to return Saturday or Sunday.
